The runner-up of the MotoGP World Championship, Pecco Bagnaia, wrapped up a productive test day in Barcelona, reflecting on his impressions of the new Ducati GP25 and the dynamics of working with his new teammate, the legendary Marc Márquez. With three bikes at his disposal and a clear plan for the offseason, Bagnaia appeared optimistic about the direction of Ducati’s development heading into 2025.

‘The GP25 was born well‘: Bagnaia’s verdict on Ducati’s new machine

Bagnaia had two GP25s and a GP24 at his disposal during the Barcelona test, giving him ample opportunity to assess Ducati’s latest evolution. The Italian star was encouraged by the bike’s early performance and the clarity it provided for future improvements.

It was a positive day because we tested everything that needed to be tested‘, Bagnaia explained as quoted on GPOne.com. ‘Above all, it became quite clear what the engineers will need to concentrate on this winter. When a new bike starts at a good level, it’s always positive – it means it was born well and has potential’.

The winner of 11 Grand Prix races this year also hinted at even more tools for the job in the coming months, teasing the addition of another bike for the Malaysian tests.

I always envied those who had three or four bikes in the garage. In Malaysia, we’ll add another one‘, Bagnaia said with a smile.

Márquez and Bagnaia: A partnership built on braking

The Barcelona test also marked the beginning of Bagnaia’s working relationship with Marc Márquez, who made his debut as Ducati’s newest recruit. While Bagnaia has offered no advice to his new teammate, their shared focus on braking has already proven invaluable.

No advice, but our comments are very similar‘, Bagnaia said. ‘The requests are the same, which speeds up the work because we’re looking for the same things’.

Bagnaia acknowledged the differences in their riding styles but noted a key similarity that could prove to be a game-changer for Ducati’s development.

When it comes to braking, we are very similar. We are two riders who rely heavily on the brakes and put a lot of stress on them, so we were looking for the same sensations‘.

A promising start for Ducati’s dream team

The alignment between Bagnaia and Márquez during their first test together offers a tantalizing glimpse of what could become a formidable partnership. With both riders pushing in the same direction and Ducati’s GP25 showing early promise, the Italian factory team is poised for another dominant campaign.

Marc and I had the same feelings, and that certainly makes a difference when working’, Bagnaia concluded.

As the MotoGP grid braces for the 2025 season, all eyes will be on this dynamic duo. If their collaboration continues to yield results as it did in Barcelona, Ducati may have just assembled one of the most powerful pairings in recent MotoGP history.

MotoGP 2022 and 2023 World Champion Francesco Bagnaia has delivered a scathing critique of the sport’s newly tested radio communication system, branding it a bulky, dangerous, and ineffective addition to racing. The reigning champ didn’t mince words about his experience with the device during recent tests.

It is annoying, I don’t like it. It’s very bulky, the connection cable is large and could also be dangerous. It doesn’t work – I can’t hear anything, and it bothers me. Until it is ready, I won’t use it, he said quoted on GPOne.com.

Bagnaia’s frustrations echo the concerns of many riders who have expressed skepticism about introducing radio systems to MotoGP. Designed to improve safety by enabling direct communication between Race Direction and riders, the current iteration of the system appears far from ready for the high-octane demands of the sport.

A risk, not a solution

Bagnaia pointed out that the system’s oversized cable poses a potential hazard during races, raising serious safety concerns. Coupled with poor audio quality and an overall lack of functionality, the radio system risks becoming more of a hindrance than a help in critical situations.

The bold move to introduce radios to MotoGP – a step previously taken by Formula 1 – has faced significant pushback from riders. For many, including Bagnaia, the focus should remain on refining the system to ensure it adds value rather than unnecessary risk.

MotoGP’s Next Challenge

As MotoGP aims to enhance safety through technological advancements, Bagnaia’s candid feedback underscores the importance of getting it right. The stakes are high, and until these critical issues are resolved, it’s clear that some of the sport’s biggest names won’t be warming up to the idea of radio communication anytime soon.

The pressure is now on MotoGP’s technical teams to address the system’s flaws and prove it can live up to the intense demands of the premier class of motorcycle racing.

Pedro Acosta is wasting no time making an impression as an official KTM MotoGP rider. During a grueling day of testing at Montmeló, the 19-year-old Spaniard finished ninth overall but left the paddock buzzing with his focused and productive approach. Now draped in KTM’s signature orange, Acosta is showing he’s ready to take the factory team to new heights.

Morning glory, afternoon grind

Acosta’s day started on a high note, clocking the third-fastest lap of the morning with a time of 1m39.571s. While he couldn’t improve during the afternoon session, the young rider focused heavily on fine-tuning the KTM’s aerodynamics and electronics, a deliberate choice in preparation for the upcoming season.

Considering how much we worked on aerodynamics all day, and on the medium tyre, it didn’t go too badly‘, Acosta said as quoted on Motorsport.com. ‘I’m happy to be home again, working with the team’.

Mastering the details: ‘I want it all

Now in the KTM Factory Team, Acosta jumped straight into development mode. He tested no fewer than five fairing designs, aiming to strike a balance between speed, stability, and cornering precision.

The goal is to calm the bike down a bit and make sure the controls work properly without compromising speed or turning ability’, he explained. ‘We’ve improved in a couple of important areas, but I want it all’.

The KTM’s aerodynamic package remains a key focus, particularly in managing wheelies and ensuring the electronics complement the bike’s performance. Acosta’s meticulous feedback and alignment with teammate Brad Binder’s insights demonstrate his maturity beyond his years.

Finding comfort in the details

Acosta also praised smaller ergonomic changes, such as a new saddle design, which provided better leg positioning and was well-received across the team. These minor tweaks, tested at Misano and refined in Barcelona, are expected to make a noticeable difference in race conditions.

The saddle was more about comfort, but it’s worked well for everyone’, the Spaniard said. ‘The position feels more natural’.

Coming home’: Acosta embraces KTM family

Despite a year away, Acosta expressed excitement about reuniting with the KTM factory setup, describing the experience as a homecoming.

This is like the «Come home for Christmas» advert’, he joked. ‘I’ve grown up with these people since I was 15, and now it feels like I’m back where I belong’.

Acosta’s sense of familiarity with the team allowed him to approach the test day with confidence, focusing on refining the KTM rather than addressing legacy issues from his Moto2 days.

Teaming up with Viñales and Bastianini

Acosta also took time to evaluate his new teammates, Maverick Viñales and Enea Bastianini. Riding alongside Viñales offered valuable aerodynamic insights, with Acosta noting the Spaniard’s competitive pace.

I was riding with Maverick today because I needed someone fast for aerodynamic testing’, Acosta explained. ‘His comments have been very positive, and he was riding well. After two or three years with Aprilia, it’s normal to have some quirks, but Maverick will be competitive’.

As for Bastianini, a crash cut his day short, but Acosta remained focused on his own objectives.

Eyes on the future

With KTM gearing up for a demanding season featuring stops in Malaysia, Thailand, and beyond, Acosta is laying the groundwork for success. His disciplined approach to testing, combined with his natural talent and synergy with the team, has KTM optimistic about the future.

It’s been a long day of trying to understand which path we need to take’, Acosta said. ‘But I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made’.

Felipe Nasr, fresh off his championship-winning season in the Porsche Penske Motorsport IMSA GTP series, made a jaw-dropping return to the NTT IndyCar Series testing at The Thermal Club. The Brazilian driver, piloting Team Penske’s No. 3 Chevrolet, lit up the track with an unofficial lap of 1m40.947s, claiming the top spot in a dramatic finale as the sun dipped behind the Coachella Valley hills.

But Nasr’s performance wasn’t just about speed—it was about redefining the role of a test driver. With his extensive hybrid racing background, Nasr brought unparalleled expertise to the hybrid energy recovery systems (ERS), a critical technology set to revolutionize IndyCar in the coming seasons.

Nasr’s Late Surge: A Perfect End to a Productive Day

Nasr spent much of the day near the top of the timing charts, but it was his final run that cemented his place as the session’s fastest. In relatively cool conditions, the 31-year-old Brazilian clocked his best time, showcasing a blend of raw speed and technical precision.

Yet, for Nasr, the standout lap was just a cherry on top. His focus was on helping Team Penske refine their hybrid package, drawing on his wealth of experience from driving hybrid-powered Formula 1 cars with Sauber and dominating the IMSA scene in the Porsche 963 GTP.

“The goal was to bring all the knowledge and experience I’ve gained with hybrid cars,” Nasr said. “Helping Penske, the engine manufacturer, and the team to get a good feel on everything was the priority. Ending the day P1 is great, but the most important thing was gathering valuable data for development.”

Close Contenders: McElrea and Sargeant Shine

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Hunter McElrea also impressed in the No. 21 Chevy, finishing second with a time of 1m41.071s, narrowly behind Nasr. Meanwhile, Logan Sargeant, making his much-anticipated IndyCar testing debut, turned heads with a series of strong performances throughout the day. The former Williams F1 driver clocked a best time of 1m41.139s in the No. 06 Meyer Shank Racing Chevy, securing third place.

Sargeant, who completed an incredible 84 laps, the most of any driver, showed he’s more than ready to make the leap to IndyCar. His consistency and adaptability across the day underscored his potential to thrive in this competitive series.

Challenges and Setbacks: Fittipaldi and Sowery Battle Issues

Not everyone had a smooth day, however. Enzo Fittipaldi, driving the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevy, managed a solid fifth-place finish with a 1m41.833s lap despite being unable to complete a new tire run due to technical issues. Similarly, Dale Coyne Racing’s Toby Sowery faced a frustrating day, plagued by morning gremlins and a terminal engine problem in the afternoon. Limited to just 27 laps, Sowery’s best time of 1m42.021s was far from representative of his potential.

The Nasr-Penske Hybrid Synergy

One of the day’s most compelling storylines was Nasr’s reunion with Josef Newgarden’s race engineer, Luke Mason, whom he worked with during his Carlin Racing days. Their collaboration proved vital as Penske gathered crucial data on the hybrid ERS units, which will enter their second season of use in 2025.

“Working with Luke was fantastic,” Nasr said. “He’s super professional, and it was great to see how our feedback aligned to push this hybrid package forward.”

Why This Test Matters

Nasr’s test wasn’t just another day at the track—it was a pivotal moment in IndyCar’s hybrid evolution. With his unmatched hybrid expertise, the Brazilian proved he’s not only a champion on the track but also a key asset in shaping the sport’s future. His performance, combined with Penske’s relentless pursuit of innovation, has set a high bar for what’s to come in 2025.

As the hybrid era of IndyCar inches closer, Felipe Nasr and Team Penske are showing they’re not just ready—they’re leading the charge.

Ferrari’s journey through the 2024 Formula 1 season has been a rollercoaster, but the team now finds itself in a strong position, thanks to a remarkable turnaround with its SF-24 car. Carlos Sainz, who recently claimed victory at the Mexican Grand Prix, didn’t hold back in praising Ferrari’s efforts to transform a car he once described as “undriveable” into a contender capable of challenging for wins—and potentially the Constructors’ Championship.

“Mid-Season Struggles: The Pain of Progress”

The season began with promise for Ferrari, as Charles Leclerc and Sainz delivered wins in Melbourne and Monaco, showcasing the SF-24’s potential. But the optimism quickly evaporated. Updates introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix sent the car into a development slump, leaving Ferrari floundering during the summer months. The SF-24 became plagued by poor handling, with Sainz describing the car as bouncing uncontrollably and difficult to drive.

“What we had in mid-season was, in a way, not acceptable and undriveable,” Sainz admitted. The Spaniard was vocal about his frustrations, calling for changes to make the car more predictable and race-ready.

“The Turning Point: Monza and Singapore Upgrades”

Ferrari’s fortunes began to shift in September, with key upgrades rolled out at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza and a flexible front wing added for the Singapore Grand Prix. These changes proved transformative, improving the car’s downforce and handling characteristics.

Sainz highlighted the significance of these updates:

“It’s been maybe a bigger step in terms of usable downforce and especially the way you can run the car with stiffnesses, etc. The car doesn’t bounce as much, and it’s into a decent window.”

With a more stable platform, Ferrari capitalized on its improvements, clinching wins in Italy, the United States, and Mexico.

“Ferrari’s Comeback: Fighting for the Title”

The resurgence has brought Ferrari back into contention for the Constructors’ Championship, currently sitting in second place with 557 points, just 36 behind leaders McLaren. Leclerc’s wins in Italy and Austin, coupled with Sainz’s triumph in Mexico, have kept the Scuderia within striking distance.

While Max Verstappen and Red Bull have dominated the Drivers’ Championship, with Leclerc trailing by 86 points, Sainz believes Ferrari’s mid-season slump cost them a potential double-title challenge. “A stronger development path could have yielded a double-title challenge,” he reflected.

“Praise for Ferrari’s Recovery”

Sainz didn’t shy away from crediting Ferrari’s ability to rebound from adversity. “I was quite vocal and critical about those struggles … but I’m the first one to praise the team’s recovery process,” he said. “The way we accepted it and recovered from it shows great team strength.”

Ferrari’s turnaround serves as a testament to its resilience. The team identified the problems, implemented changes, and now finds itself in a much better position heading into the season’s final stretch.

“Looking Ahead: Can Ferrari Close the Gap?”

With only a handful of races left, Ferrari’s focus remains on narrowing the gap to McLaren and maximizing its chances in both championships. Sainz is optimistic, but realistic:

“Every team this year has gone through a tough period with development, maybe only McLaren has had everything work for them. But we’ve recovered really well.”

If Ferrari continues its upward trajectory, the SF-24 might yet deliver a season-ending surprise. Whether or not they claim the Constructors’ title, the team’s ability to overcome challenges and fight at the sharp end of the grid is a promising sign for the future.

After an unprecedented year of stability in the 2023-24 Formula 1 season, the 2024 grid has been turned on its head. The sport is witnessing a brutal driver clear-out that’s leaving veterans like Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas, Kevin Magnussen, Zhou Guanyu, and Logan Sargeant without seats—and even Sergio Perez is teetering on the edge. The numbers are stark: five, maybe six, of the 20 drivers who started the season are gone, marking one of the most significant turnover periods in recent F1 history.

What’s driving this sudden sea change? A perfect storm of expiring contracts, exceptional junior talent, and high-stakes team strategies has created a grid-wide domino effect, forcing teams to embrace a youth revolution and leave seasoned drivers by the wayside.

“The Perfect Storm: Expiring Contracts and Junior Talent Surge”

The stable 2023 grid meant that many drivers entered 2024 on the final year of their contracts, putting several veterans on shaky ground. Simultaneously, a wave of hungry junior drivers, including Ollie Bearman, Kimi Antonelli, Jack Doohan, Franco Colapinto, and Gabriel Bortoleto, began knocking on F1’s door. Their relentless rise has put pressure on teams to reevaluate their lineups and ask tough questions: Do we stick with experience or take a gamble on youth?

“You’ve got the pressure from below,” noted F1 analyst Scott Mitchell-Malm, referencing standout performances from junior drivers. “Bearman and Antonelli are making strong cases for seats, and unexpected curveballs like Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari ripple through the grid, creating opportunities and forcing difficult decisions.”

“The Youth Movement: Why Teams Are Betting on Fresh Faces”

A renewed confidence in young drivers is reshaping the grid. Teams that were once conservative and experience-focused are now embracing risk. Ferrari and McLaren are notable examples of giving youth a shot in the past, but 2024 has turbocharged this trend.

“Young drivers today are more prepared and talented than ever before,” explained Mitchell-Malm. With advanced simulator work and early exposure to F1 environments, rising stars arrive ready to perform. Bearman’s stand-in for Ferrari at Jeddah became a turning point, showing that young talent could deliver under pressure.

“If Bearman can step into a Ferrari, score points, and potentially impact a Constructors’ Championship, that’s proof these drivers can handle the big stage,” Mitchell-Malm added.

“Veterans on the Chopping Block: What Went Wrong?”

For the departing drivers, the writing was on the wall. Whether it was inconsistent performance, lack of development, or the team’s strategic pivot, the F1 grid proved unforgiving.

  • Daniel Ricciardo: After a comeback with AlphaTauri, Ricciardo’s solid but unspectacular performances weren’t enough to secure a seat.
  • Valtteri Bottas: A difficult stint at Alfa Romeo left Bottas unable to showcase his talents in a competitive car.
  • Kevin Magnussen: Losing his seat for the fourth time highlights the Haas veteran’s struggles to secure lasting momentum.
  • Zhou Guanyu: Three seasons at Sauber without standout results left him vulnerable to younger talent.
  • Logan Sargeant: The rookie’s underwhelming performance didn’t even see him finish the season.

Sergio Perez, meanwhile, has become a symbol of overstaying one’s welcome. Once a “temporary solution” at Red Bull, Perez has failed to meet the demands of a title-contending team, with his seat likely to go to a younger, hungrier driver.

“You can’t have too much sympathy for a driver who’s been given a great opportunity and hasn’t made the most of it,” Mitchell-Malm remarked.

“The Ripple Effect: Hamilton’s Ferrari Move Changes Everything”

The most shocking move of the season—Lewis Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari—acted as the spark that ignited the grid overhaul. By joining the Scuderia, Hamilton displaced Carlos Sainz, who now finds himself hunting for a new seat. The ripple effect cascaded through the paddock, opening doors for rookies and forcing veterans to scramble.

Hamilton’s move also signaled a changing of the guard at Mercedes, with the team preparing to eventually pivot to rising star Kimi Antonelli. As Mitchell-Malm explained, “Mercedes had to consider Hamilton’s shelf-life and the timing of their transition. Hamilton made the decision easy by leaving first.”

“A Brutal But Necessary Shift”

While the driver market’s ruthlessness might seem harsh, most of the departures reflect a natural evolution in the sport. Teams are no longer willing to stick with drivers who can’t deliver consistent results, especially when their investments in young talent are starting to pay off.

“This isn’t about injustice—it’s about opportunity,” Mitchell-Malm emphasized. “If you’re a young driver ready to step up, there’s no longer as much risk for teams to take that chance. F1 is evolving, and the grid is reflecting that shift.”

“What’s Next for F1?”

As the grid readies itself for the 2025 season, fresh faces like Bearman, Antonelli, and others are set to reshape the narrative of Formula 1. The veterans departing the sport leave behind a legacy, but the new era is all about speed, preparation, and potential.

With so much talent bubbling to the surface, the sport’s future looks brighter—and faster—than ever. The question now isn’t whether young drivers can handle the pressure but how quickly they can translate their promise into podiums.

The bright lights of Las Vegas are set to shine even brighter as Alpine brings back its fan-favorite all-pink livery for the final stretch of the 2024 Formula 1 season. Starting with the highly anticipated Las Vegas Grand Prix, the striking design—thanks to title sponsor BWT—is ready to dazzle under the floodlit Strip Circuit, adding a pop of color to F1’s glitziest race of the year.

“Alpine’s Pink Comeback: A Partnership in Style and Speed”

BWT’s iconic pink has become synonymous with Alpine’s brand, first gracing the team’s cars in 2022. While the team traditionally opts for its blue base, the pink livery has appeared selectively in previous seasons, making it a special treat for fans. In 2024, however, weight-saving measures resulted in a more understated carbon-dominated design. Now, for the final three rounds of the championship, Alpine is throwing caution—and weight concerns—to the wind, bringing back the full pink design that will shine like never before in Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.

“Momentum in Their Favor: Alpine’s Race for P6”

The timing couldn’t be better for Alpine. After an electrifying double-podium finish at Interlagos, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly have catapulted the team to sixth in the Constructors’ Championship with 49 points. This achievement gives Alpine a narrow three-point lead over Haas and a five-point advantage over Red Bull’s second team, RB.

“We are heading back to Las Vegas for the second year, and I am really looking forward to it,” Ocon said enthusiastically. Reflecting on his impressive performance last season—charging from 16th to 4th—he highlighted the unique challenges and thrills of the circuit. “Driving through the heart of the city is like no other. The aim will be to keep the momentum going from São Paulo and maximize the weekend.”

“Gasly’s Determination: Eyes on the Prize”

Pierre Gasly shares Ocon’s excitement but remains laser-focused on the task at hand. “The championship battle remains close for P6, and we want to hold on to our position,” Gasly emphasized. Reflecting on last year’s Vegas GP, he acknowledged the challenges of the late sessions and cold weather, which made tire management a nightmare. “It’s a complicated event for tire warm-up, but I must say, I had a lot of fun driving the circuit last year. I’m looking forward to more of the same this time.”

“Vegas Glitz Meets Alpine Grit”

Joey Logano’s triumphant run to his third NASCAR Cup Series championship in Phoenix has earned praise from an unlikely source—his long-time rival Denny Hamlin. Despite Hamlin’s own championship frustrations, he didn’t hesitate to commend Logano and Team Penske for their strategic brilliance and execution in the season finale.

Logano’s Phoenix Masterclass

Starting second among the Championship 4 contenders, Logano utilized his strong starting position and leaned on a seamless strategy from his No. 22 team. With a car tuned for short-run speed and impeccable pit stops, Logano positioned himself at the front when it mattered most. Fending off a late charge from a rival Ford driver, he crossed the finish line to secure his third title.

Hamlin, who was eliminated in the penultimate race at Martinsville, acknowledged Logano’s standout performance in Phoenix, calling it a perfect race.

“Joey Logano, man. They did everything right. All I can say is they qualified the best, they had the best short-run speed. He had the best restart of any of the guys on that final restart, and he won a championship,” Hamlin said.

Hamlin’s Complicated Relationship with the Playoff System

While Hamlin’s praise for Logano seemed genuine, it came against the backdrop of his prior criticisms of NASCAR’s playoff format. The 43-year-old has been vocal about the system’s ability to undermine the regular season, labeling it as “delegitimizing.” Despite his reservations, Hamlin did not let his frustrations cloud his respect for Logano’s accomplishment.

However, the appreciation wasn’t without a twist. Logano took a subtle jab at Hamlin, suggesting that Hamlin was initially supportive of the current playoff format when NASCAR discussed its creation after the 2013 season.

Hamlin addressed the claim on his podcast, offering his perspective.

“I remember being part of the discussions, and I think Joey Logano mentioned that I was in the room and said it was my idea. I don’t know about that. I was part of the discussions on how we were going to do the stages.”

The exchange hints at a rivalry that may heat up further during the off-season.

Hamlin’s Relief Amid Logano’s Victory

While Logano basks in championship glory, Hamlin finds solace in the news that 23XI Racing, his co-owned team, and Front Row Motorsports (FRM) will be allowed to participate as open competitors in 2025. This resolution ensures their presence on the grid, though the fight to regain their charter status continues in court.

The Rivalry Resumes

As the dust settles on the 2024 NASCAR season, Logano enjoys his moment as champion, and Hamlin looks toward a fresh start. With both drivers likely to contend in 2025, their rivalry—on and off the track—will undoubtedly remain a storyline to watch. For now, Hamlin’s praise for Logano highlights the respect they share as competitors, even as their paths occasionally clash.
