The final showdown of the 2024 World Rally Championship season kicked off with a gripping shakedown stage at Rally Japan, where Ott Tänak delivered a commanding performance to set the fastest time. On the slippery Kuragaike Park stage, Tänak edged out rivals in treacherous conditions, keeping the pressure firmly on Thierry Neuville in the fight for the drivers’ championship.

“Tänak Shines, Neuville Holds the Advantage”

Despite the challenging surface, Tänak showed precision and aggression, clocking the quickest time on his second run and securing the top spot by 0.4 seconds over M-Sport’s Adrien Fourmaux. Meanwhile, Neuville—who only needs six points this weekend to secure his maiden WRC title—started strong but faded to sixth in the session.

“We have our targets clear,” Neuville said. “As a team, we want both championships, so it’s about balancing the push with managing the gaps.”

Tänak, the only driver still capable of denying Neuville the title, remains focused on maximizing points for Hyundai, who lead Toyota by 15 points in the manufacturers’ championship.

“It’s going to be a big attack weekend,” Tänak declared. “We’re defending hard, and Toyota will be pushing just as much. Let’s see how it plays out.”

“Toyota in the Hunt, Ogier Leads the Charge”

Toyota’s Sébastien Ogier finished third fastest, showing determination to keep the manufacturers’ championship within reach. With the team’s home event providing added motivation, Ogier is eyeing a strong finish to overturn Hyundai’s lead.

“We have to deliver a very strong rally for the team,” Ogier said. “There’s still a chance for the manufacturers’ title, and that’s what drives us this weekend.”

“M-Sport Impresses, Katsuta Stands Strong for Toyota”

M-Sport’s Rally1 entries delivered a surprise surge, with Adrien Fourmaux and Grégoire Munster making significant gains during their three runs. Fourmaux secured second overall, while Munster overcame early handbrake issues to finish fifth, just behind Toyota’s home favorite Takamoto Katsuta.

Katsuta’s steady fourth-place performance underscores his critical role in Toyota’s bid for the team title. Meanwhile, Elfyn Evans struggled with grip issues and muddy conditions, ending eighth among Rally1 cars.

“Chris Ingram Dominates WRC2”

In the WRC2 category, Chris Ingram stole the spotlight. Fresh off his British Rally Championship victory, Ingram clocked the fastest time in his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, finishing a remarkable sixth overall, level with Neuville’s Rally1 Hyundai.

“It’s been a great start for us,” Ingram said. “The car feels fantastic, and we’re pushing hard.”

Behind him, Hiroki Arai, Heikki Kovalainen, and Nikolay Gryazin rounded out the top WRC2 times, with Gryazin’s Citroën featuring a striking Initial D-inspired livery.

“Pajari’s WRC2 Title Challenge Off to a Slow Start”

Championship contender Sami Pajari had a quieter session, finishing eighth in WRC2 after a single timed run. Pajari needs a first or second-place finish this weekend to claim the title but remains focused.

“It’s never over until it’s over,” Pajari said. “We’ll stick to our plan and see what happens.”

“Slippery Start Sets the Stage for a Thrilling Finale”

The Kuragaike Park shakedown proved a fitting prelude to the drama expected at Rally Japan. With Neuville and Tänak battling for the drivers’ title and Hyundai and Toyota locked in a tight manufacturers’ race, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

As the action shifts to the competitive stages, fans can expect high-stakes battles, unpredictable conditions, and the crowning of champions in the 2024 WRC season finale. Fasten your seatbelts—Rally Japan is set to deliver a spectacular conclusion.

Lando Norris has opened up about the emotional toll of his fading Formula 1 title hopes, admitting that his disappointing result in Brazil was a “defining moment” in his 2024 championship campaign. Heading into the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Norris trails Max Verstappen by 62 points with only three races remaining—a gap that has all but ended his dream of clinching the championship this season.

“Brazil Was the Toughest Blow”

Despite a win in the Brazil Sprint Race that briefly reduced the gap to Verstappen to 44 points, Norris’s championship aspirations took a devastating hit when he slipped from pole position to sixth in the main race. Meanwhile, Verstappen, starting from 17th on the grid, stormed to an improbable victory, extending his stranglehold on the championship.

“Post-Brazil was a tough one for me,” Norris admitted. “It was the first moment when I really realized achieving first position is now nearly impossible.”

The timing of the setback made the blow even harder to bear, with Norris noting how difficult it is to recover from such a swing this late in the season.

“This was almost a defining moment for the championship. The doors are almost shut,” he said. “For a week, I was pretty down after Brazil. It was a tough realization when hopes and belief were so high.”

“Luck Plays Its Part”

While Norris acknowledged that Formula 1 often hinges on fine margins and moments of fortune, he expressed frustration at how luck seemed to favor Verstappen in crucial races. Red flags, Safety Cars, and strategic gambles have played pivotal roles throughout the season, sometimes tilting the scales away from Norris.

“Luck can be on your side or on someone else’s. That’s life,” Norris remarked. “I’m not complaining—it’s just how Formula 1 is. One day it will go your way, the next it won’t.”

“No Regrets, Just Reflection”

Despite the heartbreak, Norris maintains that his approach has been correct throughout the season. He’s proud of the progress he’s made and the performances he’s delivered, even if they haven’t been enough to dethrone Verstappen.

“I’ve been performing well, doing a good job,” Norris said. “My approach has been the right one, but now I think I can probably just go out and enjoy it a little more.”

Norris also reflected on the emotional resilience required to handle the highs and lows of an intense title fight.

“It’s tough when your belief is knocked down so much all of a sudden, but you learn to accept it,” he said. “You move on, you keep fighting.”

Las Vegas: A Chance to Regroup

As the Formula 1 world gears up for the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Norris has little left to lose. While Verstappen is almost certain to seal his fourth championship, Norris remains focused on securing second in the standings and keeping McLaren ahead of Ferrari in the constructors’ championship.

“It doesn’t change my approach,” Norris said. “I’ll go out, do my best, and enjoy the racing.”

A Season of Growth Amidst Heartbreak

While the 2024 championship may have slipped through his fingers, Norris’s journey has showcased his growth as a driver and contender. With three wins, seven poles, and consistent performances throughout the season, the Briton has proven he belongs at the top level of Formula 1.

The disappointment of Brazil may linger, but Norris has his sights set on the future. As he prepares for Las Vegas and beyond, the young McLaren star will undoubtedly carry the lessons of 2024 into the next chapter of his racing career—hungrier and more determined than ever to turn heartbreak into triumph.

In a world where Red Bull Racing has become synonymous with high-pressure performance and unforgiving driver decisions, Sergio “Checo” Perez has defied the odds, retaining his seat at the team since joining in 2021. Despite persistent rumors of his potential ousting and a series of underwhelming performances, Perez has managed to navigate the cutthroat environment of Milton Keynes—and the reasons why might surprise you.

The Perez Paradox: Underperforming Yet Unshaken

Perez’s tenure at Red Bull has been a mixed bag. While he’s provided stability as the team’s number two driver, his results have often failed to match the team’s sky-high expectations. In 2023, Perez claimed just two wins, compared to Max Verstappen’s record-breaking 19 victories, and his 2024 campaign has been riddled with inconsistency.

For most teams, such a disparity would be a death knell, but Red Bull has opted for patience with Perez—a stark contrast to their notorious treatment of past drivers like Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon, who were unceremoniously dropped after failing to meet expectations.

“Checo has played the role of a number two driver perfectly,” analysts agree. “He’s compliant, avoids unnecessary racing incidents, and ensures a conflict-free environment at Red Bull.”

But even Perez’s cooperation hasn’t shielded him entirely from scrutiny, especially as Red Bull sits third in the Constructors’ standings—a sharp disappointment given Verstappen’s impending fourth title.

Why Red Bull Sticks with Perez

So, why has Perez survived where others have not? The answer lies in a delicate balance of practicality, stability, and economics.

  1. A Safe Bet for Team Dynamics
Unlike a fiery young talent like Liam Lawson, who could challenge Verstappen and disrupt team harmony, Perez brings predictability. His willingness to play second fiddle ensures the team remains focused on Verstappen’s dominance without internal conflict.“It’s easier to maintain this conflict-free pairing than risk a young driver upsetting the balance,” insiders say.
  2. Sponsorship Revenue
Perez brings more than just experience—he delivers a financial windfall. Red Bull reportedly earns over $30 million annually from Perez’s backers, a significant figure even for a top team. This financial boost gives Red Bull added incentive to retain Perez, particularly as Formula 1 grows in popularity across Latin America, with Perez as its most prominent star.
  3. Experience and Stability
Perez’s veteran status ensures he provides a level-headed presence in the garage. Unlike younger, less experienced drivers, Perez avoids racing incidents and brings years of tactical know-how to the team. While this doesn’t compensate for his lack of pace, it ensures consistency in team operations.

The Red Bull Dilemma: Stability vs. Ambition

While Perez’s position is safe for now, Red Bull’s history suggests that no seat is ever guaranteed. The team is notorious for making bold, surprise moves, often at the expense of their drivers. If Perez’s performances continue to lag behind Verstappen’s dominance, Red Bull could very well turn to a younger, more aggressive driver like Liam Lawson or another rising star.

However, such a move comes with risks. A more competitive teammate could challenge Verstappen’s supremacy, creating internal tension that might destabilize the team.

The Road Ahead: Will Perez Stay or Go?

As Perez approaches his fifth season with Red Bull, the pressure is mounting. While his role as a compliant number two has served the team well, the sport’s hyper-competitive environment leaves little room for complacency. Perez’s financial contributions and team-friendly demeanor may keep him in the seat for now, but Red Bull’s penchant for ruthlessness looms large.

“Red Bull is pragmatic,” insiders note. “Checo is the safer bet today, but tomorrow? That could change in an instant.”

For now, Perez remains a survivor in a system that demands perfection, but his tenure serves as a reminder that even the safest bets don’t last forever in Formula 1. With Red Bull’s unpredictable driver strategy, the future of Checo’s seat may depend on how long he can tread water in the deep end of Milton Keynes.

Yamaha has earned a reputation for producing bikes that are more rider-friendly and comfortable. This is something Miguel Oliveira experienced firsthand during Tuesday’s testing session in Barcelona.

The Portuguese rider found the YZR-M1 to be a bike that is ‘very rider-friendly’ and offers ‘a good feedback’. However, the #88 emphasized that comfort and speed are not necessarily synonymous:

I tell you, the most comfortable bike is not the fastest bike, so we’re not looking for comfort or having a bike that is friendly to the rider, but rather a bike that is fast. And I think we are going to get an opportunity to work on that, for sure.

MotoGP will return to the track for the Sepang shakedown from January 31 to February 2, followed by the official test at the same circuit from February 5 to 7. Another two days of testing are scheduled for February 12 and 13 in Buriram.

In a spectacular debut, the 2023 Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix shattered expectations and economic records, generating a staggering $1.5 billion in economic impact for the city. The first-of-its-kind event not only sped past financial projections but also outperformed the Super Bowl LVIII, which brought in $1 billion earlier this year.

“A Strategic Bet That Paid Off”

Formula 1, acting as its own promoter for the Las Vegas GP, chose a bold date—just before Thanksgiving—to capitalize on one of the city’s historically slowest weekends. The gamble paid off in a big way, transforming the Strip into a high-speed spectacle that captivated a global audience.

“[The race] truly put Las Vegas on the world stage in a way we had never experienced,” said Lori Nelson-Kraft, Senior Vice-President of Corporate Affairs for the Las Vegas GP.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported that the race week alone generated six times more publicity than the city typically receives in an entire year, firmly solidifying the GP as a marquee event on the global stage.

“More Than Just a Race”

While the race itself stole the show, the ripple effects of the Grand Prix went far beyond race week. According to Nelson-Kraft, the 2023 event generated $77 million in taxes, far surpassing the $33.6 million in tax revenue from Super Bowl LVIII. Of that, $22 million was directly funneled into the local education sector, providing much-needed resources for schools.

Liberty Media, F1’s parent company, has further cemented its commitment to the city with the construction of Grand Prix Plaza, a 300,000-square-foot facility on its acquired land. Designed for the race, this venue now operates year-round, hosting conferences, community events, and private functions, ensuring a consistent economic boost.

“With Liberty Media’s investment in Grand Prix Plaza, the race is no longer a single-weekend affair,” Nelson-Kraft said. “It’s a facility that continues to generate value for the city throughout the year.”

“Outpacing the Super Bowl”

The comparison to Super Bowl LVIII, America’s largest sporting event, highlights the Grand Prix’s monumental impact. Despite the NFL’s deep-rooted fanbase and cultural significance, the Las Vegas GP managed to eclipse its economic footprint in its inaugural year.

“That weekend before Thanksgiving is typically the slowest weekend in Las Vegas,” Nelson-Kraft explained. “Strategically, having the race on that date was a great move for Las Vegas.”

“The Future of F1 in Las Vegas”

The Las Vegas Grand Prix has positioned itself as a cornerstone event for both F1 and the city, proving its ability to drive massive economic growth while providing global visibility. With plans for the event to continue annually, the partnership between Liberty Media and Las Vegas is expected to flourish further.

From roaring engines on the Strip to multi-million-dollar investments in education and infrastructure, Formula 1 is proving it has more than staying power—it has transformative power.

As the city gears up for the 2024 race, one thing is certain: the Las Vegas Grand Prix is more than just a race—it’s a jackpot for the city, its residents, and the future of Formula 1 in America.

The Formula 1 world is on the brink of a seismic shift as Lewis Hamilton’s anticipated move to Ferrari for the 2025 season reshapes the sport’s financial landscape. The seven-time world champion’s rumored switch has not only ignited hopes of a Ferrari championship resurgence but has also triggered a massive sponsor exodus from Mercedes to Maranello.

Hamilton’s Influence Fuels Sponsor Exodus

Over his 12 years at Mercedes, Hamilton became a magnet for major sponsors, including Monster Energy, Puma, and Tommy Hilfiger. These brands aligned themselves with Hamilton’s global appeal and dominant performances, bolstering Mercedes’ financial strength. However, as the British superstar prepares to don Ferrari red, these same sponsors are reportedly following him to the iconic Italian team.

Ferrari’s recent partnership with Hewlett-Packard (HP), rumored to be one of the largest sponsorship deals in Formula 1 history, underscores the tidal wave of interest surrounding Hamilton’s impending arrival. With Ferrari’s pace improving and Hamilton’s presence bringing unparalleled star power, Maranello is poised for an unprecedented financial and competitive renaissance.

Hamilton Becomes a Ferrari Backer?

Adding an intriguing twist, Hamilton’s personal non-alcoholic beverage brand, Almave, is rumored to sponsor Ferrari directly. This would mark a groundbreaking moment in Formula 1, where a driver not only competes but also financially backs their team. The potential alignment of Hamilton’s personal sponsors and his brand with Ferrari further cements his influence beyond the cockpit.

Mercedes Faces the Fallout

While Mercedes has publicly maintained composure amidst the brewing storm, the departure of Hamilton and his sponsor network poses a significant challenge. The team must now fill the financial void left by brands that have defined their image during Hamilton’s tenure.

Despite the upheaval, Mercedes is reportedly planning a grand farewell for Hamilton at the end of the 2024 season, celebrating an era that delivered six driver’s titles and unparalleled dominance. Looking ahead, Mercedes has confirmed its 2025 driver lineup, with young prodigy Frederik Vesti stepping up to partner George Russell as the team embarks on a new chapter.

Ferrari’s Revival Dream

For Ferrari, the stars seem to be aligning. With Hamilton on board and a sponsor war tipping in their favor, the Scuderia is gearing up to reclaim its position at the pinnacle of Formula 1. Hamilton’s experience and winning mentality, coupled with Ferrari’s growing competitiveness, could finally bring the championship glory that has eluded them since 2007.

The Beginning of a New Era

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari promises to be one of the most transformative events in modern Formula 1 history. The shift not only alters the competitive dynamics on the grid but also reshapes the financial alliances within the sport. As Mercedes rebuilds and Ferrari reloads, 2025 is set to be a spectacle of change, ambition, and perhaps, redemption.

The heart-pounding world of NASCAR is no stranger to high-speed drama, but the latest bombshell involves more than just engines and checkered flags. In an unprecedented showdown, powerhouse teams 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports have launched a blistering antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR, shaking the foundations of the sport. This legal melee pits the two teams, led by some of the sport’s biggest names, against the governing body they claim is wielding monopolistic power to strangle the competition.

At the heart of the storm is the Cup Series charter agreement—a contentious, high-stakes document that governs everything from team participation to prize money distribution. Alleging that NASCAR has violated federal antitrust laws, the lawsuit accuses the organization of coercing teams into signing an agreement loaded with ambiguous clauses designed to suppress their rights.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court, claims NASCAR’s tactics are rooted in exploiting its dominance to impose restrictive and anti-competitive conditions. Among the allegations is a clause preventing teams from suing NASCAR for abuse of power—an “ambiguously worded” stipulation that 23XI and Front Row refused to accept. Despite NASCAR removing the clause over the weekend, the battle rages on, with both teams opting to race as non-charter entries in 2025.

Adding fuel to the fire, the complaint describes how NASCAR’s Next Gen car—introduced in 2022 to reduce costs and promote parity—has become a financial noose for teams. Described in the suit as a “very expensive racing car” with limited usability outside of NASCAR events, the Next Gen car allegedly locks teams into NASCAR’s ecosystem, further tightening the governing body’s grip on the sport.

The Stakes: Charters, Cash, and Cup Controversy

For the uninitiated, NASCAR charters function like golden tickets, guaranteeing teams a spot in every race and a larger slice of the prize money pie. Teams without charters—dubbed “open” entries—must fight tooth and nail for a starting spot, with far less financial incentive. Currently, NASCAR limits the Cup Series grid to 40 cars, 36 of which are chartered, leaving just four slots for non-chartered hopefuls.

Charters, introduced in 2016, were supposed to stabilize the sport, but critics argue they’ve created a system that favors big-money operations while pricing out smaller teams and newcomers. With charters reportedly valued between $20 million and $40 million each, the stakes are enormous. Teams unwilling to play by NASCAR’s rules risk economic devastation—a reality that 23XI and Front Row are now staring down.

Racing Royalty in the Spotlight

23XI Racing, co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and NASCAR star Denny Hamlin, fields two cars in the Cup Series, including one for breakout driver Bubba Wallace. Front Row Motorsports, led by Jerry Freeze, also boasts a strong roster, including Todd Gilliland and Noah Gragson. Despite acquiring additional charters from the now-defunct Stewart-Haas Racing, both teams have vowed to compete as open entries rather than bow to NASCAR’s demands.

Hamlin, known for his outspoken nature, likened the situation to a nerve-wracking courtroom drama. “I’ve poured a lot into this sport,” he said. “Everything I’ve worked for could be wiped away pretty quickly. It’s a nervous time, and I just hope this gets resolved in a fair manner.”

The Bigger Picture: NASCAR’s Control and a History of Turmoil

This isn’t the first time NASCAR has faced accusations of wielding too much power. Critics argue the organization’s monopoly extends beyond the Cup Series to track ownership, broadcasting rights, and even the design of its cars. By controlling nearly every facet of the sport, NASCAR has made it nearly impossible for rival series or independent teams to thrive.

The suit also points to NASCAR’s history of thwarting competition. From its acquisition of rival series ARCA to its controversial handling of team unionization attempts, the France family’s iron grip on stock car racing is well-documented. Even past legal battles, such as the 2002 Texas Motor Speedway antitrust case, highlight a pattern of behavior that plaintiffs argue is rooted in suppressing opposition.

Can Change Really Come to NASCAR?

While fan discontent with NASCAR leadership has grown, the prospect of a team-led revolt or a rival series seems far-fetched. NASCAR has a long history of crushing dissent, as evidenced by its harsh treatment of drivers who attempted to unionize in the 1960s. Even major American sports leagues have struggled to achieve labor reforms without lengthy strikes or financial sacrifice.

Still, the 23XI and Front Row lawsuit could represent a pivotal moment for the sport. At a time when controversies surrounding the playoff format and declining fan trust are already casting shadows over NASCAR’s future, this legal battle has the potential to expose deeper cracks in its foundation.

The Finish Line is Far Away

As 2025 looms, the fate of 23XI and Front Row remains uncertain. For now, both teams are gearing up to race without the security of charters, facing a steep uphill battle for success on the track. Meanwhile, their fight in the courtroom continues, with the outcome potentially reshaping the future of stock car racing.

One thing is clear: NASCAR’s road ahead is anything but smooth. Whether this legal showdown sparks meaningful change or cements its reputation as an untouchable monopoly remains to be seen. Either way, the sport’s next chapter promises to be nothing short of explosive.

With just under 2 hours to race on the Montmeló circuit, the Italian rider of KTM Tech3 suffered a crash in turn 5 and although the crash itself was at high speed, there wasn’t even a big accident, but despite this, the RC16 he was riding was completely destroyed.

Fortunately the rider was not injured but his bike was in a terrible state and in pieces. Watch the rider’s crash and a very informative image about the condition of the 26-year-old Italian’s bike.

It is worth mentioning that the session was then red flagged so that a track cleaning could be carried out.

Jorge Prado will compete in the United States with Kawasaki in 2025, taking on the AMA Supercross, AMA Pro Motocross, and the SuperMotocross World Championship.

After securing two MXGP World Championships with Red Bull GasGas, the 23-year-old Spaniard has decided to shift gears in his career and cross the Atlantic. This move also marks the end of his long-standing relationship with KTM/Pierer Mobility.

Earlier this year, Prado got a taste of the American tracks, competing in the first four rounds of the AMA Supercross. His best results included a heat race win and a seventh place in a main event.

In a statement from Kawasaki, the rider from Lugo shared his excitement about the transition: ‘Coming to America to race Supercross, Motocross and the SuperMotocross World Championship with Monster Energy Kawasaki is an incredible opportunity. I’ve always admired the level of competition here, and I’m excited to challenge myself against some of the best riders in the world. This is a new chapter in my career, and I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got, representing a legendary factory like Kawasaki. The passion and intensity of the fans here is unmatched, and I can’t wait to experience that energy’.
