Joey Logano’s third NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2024 has been hailed as one of the most impressive achievements in recent racing history, and former champion Kevin Harvick isn’t holding back his admiration. On his latest podcast episode, Harvick broke down what made Logano’s title run special, lauding his ability to capitalize on every opportunity in a season filled with challenges.

Turning a “Crap Car” Into a Title-Winner

Logano’s No. 22 Ford Mustang wasn’t the dominant machine of the year, but Harvick believes that’s what makes his victory even more remarkable. Logano and his team transformed what Harvick described as a “crap car” into a championship-winning ride by peaking at the perfect time.

“Joey Logano was the best driver of the year because he took a complete crap car with his team and turned it into a championship-winning car by the time they got to the end of the year,” Harvick said. “Every moment they had, they capitalized on to put themselves in position to win a championship.”

Logano’s perseverance and strategic precision shone brightest during the playoffs, culminating in a flawless performance at the season finale.

Why Logano Stood Out Over Larson

Harvick also made a bold statement by ranking Logano above Kyle Larson, who many regard as one of the most talented drivers in NASCAR. While acknowledging Larson’s skill, Harvick highlighted the layered complexity required to secure a championship—something he believes Logano mastered this season.

“We believe [Larson] is the best driver in the world, right?” Harvick noted. “But there’s just more layers to winning championships than just being the best driver.”

Blaney’s Challenges and Logano’s Clean Run

Logano’s stiffest competition during the championship race came from his own teammate, Ryan Blaney. However, Harvick pointed out how traffic and rival drivers played a role in keeping Blaney from mounting a serious challenge.

“The biggest trouble that Blaney had was getting through the #5 car and the #24 car,” Harvick explained. “He just held him up for a tremendous amount of time, and he lost so much ground to Logano that he was just never able to make it up.”

Logano’s ability to avoid such obstacles and maintain his composure under pressure proved pivotal in sealing the title.

A Championship Built on Timing and Teamwork

Harvick’s analysis underscores how Logano’s success was a product of not only his driving skill but also his team’s ability to execute when it mattered most. From overcoming equipment limitations to managing race-day strategy, the No. 22 team’s ability to peak at the right moment earned them the championship.

“It’s not just about being the fastest or the most talented—it’s about seizing the moment,” Harvick said. “Joey and his team did exactly that.”

Legacy Cemented

With this latest triumph, Logano solidifies his place among NASCAR’s all-time greats, becoming the first driver to secure three championships after the 2010s. His journey from an underperforming car to the top of the sport will undoubtedly be remembered as a testament to resilience and determination.

For Harvick and fans alike, Logano’s 2024 season was a masterclass in how champions are made—not just on raw talent but on the ability to rise above adversity and deliver when it counts.
