The Estoril Circuit was the scene of strong emotions this Friday, as the World Women’s Championship (WorldWCR) athletes faced a drying track for the Portuguese Superpole. After a free practice session in the rain, the battle for first place on the grid intensified between the two main rivals in the championship.

Even before that, in the first free practice session, Australian Tayla Relph dominated the wet conditions, setting the best time of 2’06.801, almost two seconds ahead of Spaniard Pakita Ruiz.

Ana Carrasco, the championship leader, was third, four seconds behind Relph. The practice session was marked by crashes, such as those of Emily Bondi and Mallory Dobbs, who managed to get back on the track despite the setbacks.

The Superpole was a different story, with 27-year-old Ana Carrasco, from the Evan Bros Racing Yamaha team, recording the fastest time of the session with a time of 1’51.706s, beating her main competitor, María Herrera from the Klint Forward Factory Team, by 0.359 seconds. Ampito/Pata Prometeon Yamaha’s Beatriz Neila completed the front row of the grid for Saturday’s Race 1.

The Superpole session was marked by the transition from rain tires to slicks as the track dried out. Sara Sanchez, of the 511 Terra&Vita Racing Team, secured fourth place, followed by Australian Taylor Relph of TAYCO Motorsport, who is aiming to repeat the podium achieved in Cremona. Yamaha Motoxracing WCR Team’s Roberta Ponziani rounded off the second row.

Also noteworthy was the impressive performance of Mexican rider Astrid Madrigal, of ITALIKA Racing FIMLA, who took seventh place. Pakita Ruiz and American Mallory Dobbs took eighth and ninth places respectively, while Jessica Howden completed the top 10.

Top six in Superpole:

1. Ana Carrasco (Evan Bros Racing Yamaha Team) 1’51.706s
2. María Herrera (Klint Forward Factory Team) +0.359s
3. Beatriz Neila (Ampito / Pata Prometeon Yamaha) +1.907s
4. Sara Sánchez (511 Terra&Vita Racing Team) +1.918s
5. Tayla Relph (TAYCO Motorsport) +2.232s
6. Roberta Ponziani (Yamaha Motoxracing WCR Team) +2.291s
