María Herrera claimed an impressive victory in Italy, overtaking Sara Sánchez in a thrilling last-lap battle, while Ana Carrasco completed the podium in third place.

The opening race of the weekend in the Women’s World Circuit Championship (WorldWCR) took place at the Cremona Circuit in Italy. María Herrera, riding for the Klint Forward Racing Team, made a strong start and led the early laps, followed closely by Sara Sánchez (511 Terra&Vita Racing Team), Ana Carrasco (Evan Bros Racing Yamaha Team), and local favorite Roberta Ponziani (Yamaha Motoxracing WCR Team) in a heated battle for the podium.

Whitmore crash causes red flag

With six laps remaining, British rider Alyssia Whitmore (Sekhmet Motorcycle Racing Team) crashed at turn 7, causing the race to be red-flagged. Whitmore was taken to the medical center with a minor head injury and suspected concussion, as well as a right thumb injury, and was later transported to Cremona hospital for further evaluation.

Race restarts with Carrasco leading

Following the incident, the race was restarted over five laps with the grid positions determined by the last completed timing point. At the restart, Herrera pursued her compatriot Carrasco, while Sánchez and Ponziani were close behind. Positions changed constantly as the riders battled for the top spot. However, Ponziani’s hopes of a home victory were dashed when she made a mistake and ran off the track, losing her chance to fight for the podium.

Thrilling final lap and decisive overtake

On the final lap, the battle for first place reached its climax. With an impressive maneuver in the last sector, championship leader Herrera overtook Sánchez by sliding her bike through the inside before accelerating to the finish line, securing victory in perfect racing conditions. Ana Carrasco secured third place, completing an all-Spanish podium.
