Michael Ruben Rinaldi will move down to the World Supersport Championship next season. The rider, who last year was with Aruba.it Ducati in the World Superbike Championship, has been announced as a GMT94 Yamaha rider in the secondary category.

The Italian entered WSBK in 2018 and was always connected with Ducati. He was promoted to the factory team in 2021 after impressing with a win and multiple podiums the previous year with GoEleven.

During his three years with the factory team, he consistently finished in the top five of the championship but never competed for the title. He achieved four more victories and a total of 20 podiums.

With the promotion of Nicolò Bulega in 2024, Rinaldi moved to Motocorsa Racing, where he experienced the worst season of his career: he finished only 17th with 78 points.

Without a seat in WSBK, the #21 will now make his debut in WSSP next year with GMT94. It is one of the main teams on the grid, which will give him a chance to compete for the title and attempt to take a step back in order to eventually take two steps forward.

Nicolò Canepa, Road Racing sports manager at Yamaha Motor Europe, explained Rinaldi’s recruitment: ‘The R9 is a completely different motorcycle to the R6 and will need to be ridden in a different way, from our tests we know the machine’s torque will require more of a «big bike» riding style, it’s for this reason we have included Michael Ruben Rinaldi, a rider with race-winning WorldSBK experience in our line-up’.

Puccetti will begin a new era in its existence in the World Superbike Championship this week with tests in Jerez on Tuesday and Wednesday. From now on, it will be the official Kawasaki team.

The team that has served as the official outfit for the Japanese manufacturer will now take on the Bimota identity, with long-time partner Puccetti chosen to continue Kawasaki’s presence in the grid.

In 2025, Garrett Gerloff will be the sole rider for the Ninja ZX-10RR in WSBK. However, Puccetti will also compete in the Supersport World Championship with the new 636cc version of the Ninja ZX-6R.

The American rider will make his on-track debut with his new bike – after two years with Bonovo’s BMW – tomorrow in Jerez during the first of two days of testing at the Spanish circuit.

Stefano Manzi repeated his victory this Sunday in the second race of the World Supersport Championship (WSSP) at Jerez, which marked the season finale. Adrián Huertas had been crowned champion yesterday but was unable to make it onto the podium.

The battle for the win came down to three riders: Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate), Valentin Debise (Evan Bros. Yamaha), and rookie Bo Bendsneyder (MV Agusta), who had only joined the championship in last week’s Estoril round.

Despite leading every lap, Manzi always had his rivals close behind, and the tension remained high until the very end, with Debise constantly threatening the Italian. However, Manzi crossed the line just 0.275s ahead.

Bendsneyder also finished less than a second behind the winner, securing third place. Huertas (Aruba.it Ducati), who had the most wins this season, lost his position to the Dutchman on lap 14 and was unable to keep up, finishing fourth. Marcel Schrötter (MV Agusta) completed the top five.

Adrián Huertas clinched the World Supersport Championship title this Saturday. His third-place finish in the first race at Jerez was enough, despite his main rival, Stefano Manzi, taking the victory.

Jorge Navarro made a strong start and reached the first corner in the lead, but during the first lap, he lost positions to Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati) and Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing). The Spaniard then suffered a crash, forcing him to retire on lap 2.

On the second lap, Manzi took the lead, and from then on, he consistently had Montella as his closest pursuer. The two Italians were neck and neck for over half the race, but from lap nine onwards, Manzi began to pull away, creating a significant gap to secure his lead.

Meanwhile, Huertas (Aruba.it Ducati) was initially in fifth place but quickly made a recovery, and by the third lap, he was in the third position, which he held until the end. This result was sufficient, and he didn’t need to take risks to close the gap with the two leaders.

In the end, Manzi won with a 1.971s advantage over Montella, while Huertas completed the podium, finishing 3.793s behind, celebrating his title win. The battle for fourth place lasted until the final lap, with Marcel Schrötter (MV Agusta) prevailing over Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha).

The Superbike season comes to an end this weekend at the Circuito de Jerez Ángel Nieto. Everything is still to be decided across the four categories: Superbike, Supersport, Supersport 300, and the Women’s World Championship.

In the main category, WSBK, the title fight is between two riders. Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW) is very close to securing his second title, which he could clinch in the first race. However, Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati) is 46 points behind and aims to put pressure on his rival until the end. Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati), the 2022 and 2023 champion, has already secured the third spot in the final standings.

As for the WSSP, only two riders have a shot at the championship. Adrián Huertas (Aruba.it Ducati) leads by 45 points over Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate), meaning Huertas could afford to lose 20 points in the first race and still be crowned champion on Saturday.

The WSSP300 category promises to be more thrilling, with three title contenders: leader Aldi Satya Mahendra (Team BrCorse/Yamaha), Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki) 16 points behind, and Iñigo Iglesias Bravo (Fusport-RT Motorsport by SKM-Kawasaki), 32 points off the lead.

There are also three contenders in the inaugural Women’s World Championship (WorldWCR). Ana Carrasco (Evan Bros Yamaha Team) leads by 18 points over María Herrera (Klint Forward), while Sara Sánchez (511 Terra&Vita Racing Team) remains in the mix, 42 points behind the leader but still with a mathematical chance to win the title, with 50 points up for grabs.

With all four titles on the line, the Superbike round in Jerez promises thrilling races, celebrations for the winners, and heartbreak for the runners-up. Expect plenty of emotions, and follow all the action here on Motorcycle Sports. Below are the full schedules (CET time).

The FIM Supersport World Championship concluded the weekend with a surprising Race 2 at Circuito do Estoril, Portugal. In ideal weather conditions for the 18-lap race, Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) dominated from the start, taking the lead into the first corner ahead of title contender Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) and Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha). Championship leader Adrian Huertas (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) had a poor start, dropping to fifth place.

On the opening lap, turn four saw a crash involving Thomas Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph) and Australian rider Oliver Bayliss (D34G Racing WorldSSP Team), taking them out of contention. Meanwhile, at the front, the leading group was providing plenty of action for the Portuguese spectators as Montella led Manzi, while Huertas started to regain ground, closing in on Mahias in third place.

As the race unfolded, the tension rose, with Huertas (#99) increasing the pressure on his championship rivals. He climbed into third place and began chasing down Montella, who led on the Ducati. Further back, French riders Valentin Debise and Mahias engaged in a fierce battle for fourth place, exchanging skilled overtakes throughout the four-kilometer track.

Feeling the heat from Manzi, Montella attempted to widen the gap from the chasing group, but a crucial mistake at turn 7 saw the Italian crash out with just eight laps to go, ending his hopes of contending for the 2024 WorldSSP title.

Title battle to be between Huertas and Manzi

With Manzi securing the win and Huertas finishing second, Debise impressed by taking third place. Lucas Mahias finished fourth, followed by Bo Bendsneyder (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) in fifth, with Federico Caricasulo (Motozoo ME AIR Racing) rounding off the top 6. This result marked Yamaha’s fourth win of the season and Ducati’s 99th podium in the WorldSSP class. The title race now comes down to Jerez, where Huertas and Manzi will battle it out for the championship, with 45 points separating them at the top of the standings.

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing has an enviable track record of success in WorldSSP, using the 599cc Ninja ZX-6R. Turkish rider Can Öncü continues to race competitively on this model during the current season. Since WorldSSP was established as an FIM World Championship in 1999, eleven different riders have claimed victories on various iterations of the Ninja ZX-6R. As recently as 2023, Öncü won a race at Mandalika, Indonesia, on the current model.

Alcoba is expected to get his first experience with the new Ninja ZX-6R in a test scheduled for November, which will kick off his preparation for the upcoming season.

Commenting on this exciting new challenge, Alcoba said: ‘First of all, I would like to sincerely thank Puccetti and Kawasaki Racing for giving me this incredible opportunity and believing in me. I know this is a big change, as the bikes in the category I come from are quite different, but that only increases my determination. My goal is to adapt quickly, push myself to the limit, and deliver thrilling performances that fans will remember. The hard work starts now, and I’m ready for it’.
