Chase Sexton was the main highlight of this second round of the AMA Supercross 450 in San Francisco, as last year’s winner of the championship returned to the highest point of the podium.

At Oracle Park, the (now) KTM rider has pretty much dominated all of the main event, eventually securing the win, the first of the season, which meant he is now leading the championship too.

What a start for Jett Lawrence at the first round of the AMA Supercross 450! The Team Honda HRC rider dominated the main event in Anaheim from start to finish, showing right away that he is a serious contender for the championship.

The first holeshot of the year in the main event belonged to Jett Lawrence. He was soon overtaken by Cooper Webb, with Jason Anderson in third, but it wasn’t long before Lawrence was back in first position.

And the «film» of the first round is easy to explain, with some monotony during the first 11 laps as far as the race leaders were concerned, with Lawrence always leading ahead of Anderson and Webb.

On lap 12 Dean Wilson moved into second position, but everything was back to the previous formula over the next two laps.

Until the end, Derek Derek, Justin Hill, Jorge Prado and Malcolm Stewart were also in second place, but no one could shadow Lawrence, who confirmed his victory with 7.188s over Anderson at the end, with defending champion Chase Sexton in third.

Eli Tomac had a disastrous injury last season in AMA Supercross at a time he was making an almost perfect run towards the title in the 450SX. The rider ruptured his achilles tendon, which left him without the possibility of racing more, «handing» on a plate the title to Chase Sexton.

He was assisted right away but he knew his title hopes were ended, and didn’t hide his bad feelings towards what happened: ‘It was a very hard to swallow. I was angry and asking why it happened’. He then questioned himself if he was able to return, and being motivated was key, which ultimately led him to renew.

After winning the motocross world title, Jorge Prado is taking on a new challenge in 2024. The Red Bull GasGas rider will compete in the first three rounds of the AMA Supercross in Anaheim, San Francisco, and San Diego in the 450SX class.

The Spanish rider had the desire to compete in the famous American championship, a sport very different from motocross, with races held on temporary tracks inside stadiums. By participating in these first three rounds of the season, Prado will gain competitive pace before the MXGP season.

In a press release, the Madrid-born rider explained why this was the chosen time to fulfill a dream he has had for several years: ‘Since I started riding my dream has always been to one day race in the US, specifically to race Supercross. I have watched it my whole life on television and always thought it must be great to race under lights with a huge crowd and atmosphere! And more specifically, it must be great to race at an iconic stadium like Angel Stadium. I was lucky enough in 2015, while visiting and training in the US, to go to Anaheim 1 – it was a great experience and made me want to try it even more. So given I won the MXGP title this year and am totally healthy and looking for a new challenge, I thought it was the perfect time in my career to come and train in USA properly to prepare for a few Supercross races. I don’t want to waste another whole year wondering if I could or should, so I am here and I am going to try it out’.

Prado added: ‘I’m really looking forward to it and am lucky enough to have the full support of my Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing Team back home with Claudio and Davide de Carli, and the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing Team here in the USA behind me’.
