It was a sunny morning in Garmisch, Germany, and there was no better way to kick off an adventure than astride the new BMW R1300GSA. Vasco Santos, a journalist specializing in motorcycles, was about to embark on an epic journey that would take him from the scenic roads of Europe to the majestic deserts of Namibia. Alongside the daring duo, Nikki and Agus, Vasco prepared for a journey that promised to be as thrilling as it was challenging.

The route began in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a picturesque town with stunning views of the Bavarian Alps. From there, the team rode through breathtaking landscapes, passing the lively city of Innsbruck on their way toward the soaring Alpine peaks. The R1300GSA, with its cutting-edge technology and performance, was the perfect companion for this expedition, allowing them to explore every corner with confidence and ease.

After days of riding through rolling hills and vast plains, the team finally arrived in Namibia, where the desert’s intense heat welcomed them with open arms. The journey culminated in Windhoek, the country’s capital, with a trophy presentation that was an emotional high point for Vasco, Nikki, Agus, and everyone involved. The blending of motorcycling spirit with Namibian culture was unforgettable, highlighting the stunning beauty of desert landscapes and the grandeur of safari adventures.

But this journey wasn’t just about roads and deserts; it was filled with laughter, challenges, and, above all, a deep connection with the spirit of the motorcycle. A high-quality 23-minute video production captured every moment of this intense 33-day journey, showcasing the stunning Namib Desert landscapes and the encounters with the region’s rich wildlife.

Reflecting on the experience, Vasco emphasized the camaraderie among motorcyclists. “It’s not just about the bike; it’s about the stories we create along the way,” he said with a smile. Every stop, every local dish savored, and every person they met made this journey a true celebration of adventure.

As the sun set over Namibia’s vast landscapes, Vasco knew this was just one of many stories waiting to be told. With the R1300GSA by his side, the future promised even more incredible adventures.

The history of British motorcycling is full of iconic models, but few have the prestige and importance of the Velocette KTT. Launched in 1928, this motorcycle was not only a feat of innovative engineering, but also a true victory machine in some of the most prestigious competitions of the time, including the legendary Isle of Man TT. With a bold design and impressive performance for its era, the KTT solidified Velocette’s name as one of the leading manufacturers of sport and racing motorcycles in the United Kingdom.

The Emergence of the Velocette KTT

Velocette, founded in 1905 by John Edgar in Birmingham, rose to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s due to its ability to produce high-performance motorcycles. The KTT marked a milestone, designed specifically for the demands of competition, with the brand aiming to conquer the most challenging circuits, such as the Isle of Man TT, one of the toughest motorcycle races in the world.

The KTT was the evolution of the Velocette K Series, a 350cc model, but with a more powerful engine, focused even more on speed. The model was developed to meet the new demands of racing, with the goal of competing against the best brands of the time, such as Norton and AJS, who dominated the tracks.

Technical Innovations of the KTT

The engine of the Velocette KTT was a 350cc single-cylinder, with valves controlled by a double overhead camshaft system (thus enhancing the bike’s performance), a technical feature that stood out at the time. This engine was designed to reach speeds of over 100 mph (160 km/h), a major achievement in the 1920s. The KTT also had a lightweight and agile frame, allowing excellent performance in tight corners and long straights on racing circuits.

Moreover, the KTT’s suspension system was one of the major innovations of its time. The design of the front suspension was more advanced than many competitors, providing greater stability and comfort during the race. The KTT also featured a four-speed gearbox, a characteristic appreciated by riders for its reliability and speed during competition.

Success on the Track: The Isle of Man TT

The true brilliance of the Velocette KTT came in competitions, especially at the Isle of Man TT. In 1929, just a year after the launch of the KTT, the motorcycle had already achieved important victories, establishing Velocette as a top brand in racing. The bike was ridden by renowned riders of the time, such as Freddie Hicks, who claimed significant victories and podium finishes in several editions of the TT.

The KTT was also successful in other prestigious competitions, such as road races and national championships, where it demonstrated its durability and performance on demanding circuits. It was not just a fast machine; it was also a motorcycle that withstood the wear and tear of intense, long-duration events.

Legacy of the Velocette KTT

Despite its relatively limited production, the Velocette KTT left a legacy that endures to this day. The brand played a key role in the development of sport motorcycling and helped establish the United Kingdom as a hub of innovation and excellence in the motorcycle world. The KTT is frequently remembered by collectors and motorcycle enthusiasts as one of the great achievements in motor engineering, with many models still on display in specialized museums, such as the National Motorcycle Museum in the UK.

In terms of cultural impact, the KTT symbolizes the golden age of British motorcycling, when competitions were as fierce as the need for technological innovation. Velocette, and especially the KTT, helped set a standard that would be followed by other motorcycle brands and continues to be a reference for racing motorcycles to this day.

Zero Motorcycles, a leader in electric motorcycles, has partnered with White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC) to develop an advanced aero prototype.

WMC specializes in reducing aerodynamic drag. Through this partnership, the two companies have created a prototype that offers a glimpse into the future of electric motorcycle aerodynamics, aiming to achieve this without compromising practicality or increasing costs for customers.

Founded by Robert White in 2021, WMC is based in Northamptonshire’s Motorsport Valley, home to many Formula 1 teams. Their WMC250EV was designed to break speed records by minimizing the frontal area. It features an aerodynamic duct that channels air through the front, into the middle, and out the rear of the motorcycle, reducing drag without requiring uncomfortable riding positions or movements from the rider.

Now, White Motorcycle Concepts has collaborated with Zero Motorcycles, taking a Zero SR/S and modifying it primarily in terms of fairing design. They incorporated the central duct concept without altering the frame, suspension, or drivetrain. Named the WMCSRS, the bike features a slightly elevated rear section and teardrop-shaped aerodynamic fairings around the fork. There are also two red-colored air ducts positioned above the rear wheel.

Although it remains a prototype, the motorcycle has already been tested both in CFD simulations and in real-world scenarios with aerodynamic sensors. However, it is unclear whether this model will ever go into production or if WMC’s aerodynamic duct concept will be introduced in a mass-market motorcycle.
