American rider Ricky Brabec has been forced to withdraw from the Rallye Du Maroc following a challenging first stage that left him with a potentially serious knee injury. The Monster Energy Honda Team rider, who entered the rally second in the championship standings, faced an unexpected setback in the Moroccan dunes.

‘It’s a little bit of a bummer, but you know it’s racing and it’s part of it. I jumped a dune but when I landed I bottomed the frame out on the moguls that was on the other side. That meant the first thing that hit the ground was my right leg which absorbed all the energy in the landing’ Brabec stated, reflecting on the unfortunate turn of events. The incident occurred early in the stage when Brabec, who had been riding alongside Pablo Quintanilla, encountered a treacherous section in the dunes.

Despite the pain, Brabec managed to complete the stage, finishing 11th and over 19 minutes behind the leader. However, the severity of his condition became apparent immediately after crossing the finish line, prompting a swift visit to the hospital for evaluation of potential ligament damage to his knee.

The decision to withdraw from the rally was not taken lightly: ‘It’s a bummer I’m out as I’ve let the team down as I felt that this was the rally for me to shine, but Dakar is more important’.
