Óscar Gutiérrez won this morning’s first race of the MotoE Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring. As a result, Héctor Garzó lost the chance to secure the championship this afternoon, as he cannot leave Spielberg with the 50-point lead he would have needed.

Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) got a strong start, overtaking pole position holder Gutiérrez (Axxis-MSi) on the way to Turn 1 to take the lead. Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar) nearly lost control of his bike entering the first corner and dropped several positions. Miquel Pons (Axxis-MSi) moved up to third.

At the end of the first lap, Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini) crashed in the last corner. Shortly afterward, Gutiérrez passed Garzó but made contact with him during the move, which caused him to lose momentum and several positions.

Pons also passed Garzó but crashed at the end of the second lap and was out of the race. Meanwhile, Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) moved into second, and Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) was also in the mix.

Although the leading group stayed very close, Garzó maintained the lead while his rivals swapped positions behind him. With three laps to go, it was Gutiérrez chasing the leader again… finally making the overtake in the penultimate lap.

Garzó kept the pressure on until the end, but Gutiérrez held on to claim victory. Zannoni emerged victorious in a fierce battle for third place, beating Casadei and Torres on the final lap.
