After two consecutive Superbike world titles, Alvaro Bautista’s 2024 season fell short of his ambitions for a hat-trick. As the year unfolded, Bautista found himself struggling to keep pace, finishing behind the new champion Toprak Razgatlioglu and even his Ducati teammate Nicolò Bulega. Determined to bounce back, Bautista has renewed his contract with Ducati through 2025, aiming to adapt his approach to the evolving competition.

At EICMA, Bautista reflected on the season and outlined his plans for a comeback, discussing a recent test at Jerez where he pushed for a completely new setup. “After a challenging final round, we decided to start fresh,” Bautista said. “I asked Ducati to make significant changes to the bike’s setup and electronics. We’ve won titles with a specific setup, but 2024 brought new rules, and the competition has stepped up. Reviewing the data, I realized I wasn’t the fastest Ducati on every track, as I had been before.”

With the Aruba Racing Ducati team, Bautista is taking bold steps to reset his riding experience. “I wanted a new feel on the bike, and starting from scratch has been positive,” he shared. “The feedback was different this time—it’s like we’re on a new path, and I’m optimistic that this direction will help us regain our edge.”

Bautista’s next test session is set for January 22-23, 2025, in Jerez, giving him time to focus on physical and mental conditioning. “I’ll be training hard and even using a motocross bike,” he said. Unlike last season, when he faced physical issues, Bautista is now fully fit, giving him an advantage in preparation.

Looking ahead, Ducati has announced a new Panigale V4, but it won’t be available until 2026. Bautista and his team will continue with the current bike, incorporating some updates. “The new bike won’t be here until 2026,” Bautista noted, “so we’ll see if our new approach will be enough to stay competitive.”

As for his rivalry with teammate Nicolò Bulega, Bautista sees it as a unique learning opportunity. “Having Bulega in the garage is a positive. He’s fast with a different riding style, and I’m studying his strengths to improve my own approach,” Bautista said. “He had an impressive debut in Superbike, and I’ll be pushing to close the gap and give him a real fight in 2025.”

For Bautista, 2025 is a season of adaptation and renewed ambition as he aims to reclaim his dominance in the Superbike championship. With fresh strategies and a competitive mindset, Bautista is ready to take on the challenges ahead.
