Massimo Rivola ‘against’ WSSP300; Reveals Aprilia’s entry into its replacement: ‘It’s conceptually wrong and teaches nothing’

It’s no surprise that the entry-level category of the World Superbike Championship, the WSSP300, will come to an end and be replaced at the end of 2026. Aprilia is paying close attention and has promised to be among the manufacturers taking part in the new category that will take its place, as revealed by Massimo Rivola, who did not hold back in his criticism of the current format.

The Aprilia director welcomes the changes that will happen in two years and revealed that he is eager to see these alterations on track, as he explained to Corsedimoto, also revealing that he had made a promise to Maverick Viñales—currently an Aprilia Racing rider in MotoGP: ‘The new entry-level Superbike category is something I, Massimo Rivola, strongly desire. I made a promise to [Maverick] Viñales when his cousin passed away.’

As it stands, the WSSP300 ‘teaches nothing’ to new riders, he believes, given the immense risks the riders take, often leading to unpleasant and dangerous situations on track: ‘This category is conceptually wrong because the bikes racing in it are basically wardrobes, with all due respect. The riders are at 40 in the first corner, and everyone gives 100%,’ Rivola said, before concluding with confidence about the future of the new class, where the Noale-based manufacturer could be present:

– They all bunch up, and someone ends up crashing. That teaches nothing. The new category will undoubtedly have Aprilia as a protagonist.
