The Portimão round of the World Supersport 300 Championship could hardly have gone better for Mirko Gennai. The MTM Kawasaki rider secured his second victory in as many races this Sunday.

Marc García (Kove) made a strong start and led on the opening lap, while Iñigo Iglesias Bravo (Fusport-RT Motorsport by SKM-Kawasaki) fell out of the points and eventually entered the pit lane to retire, leaving Portimão without any points.

The on-track battle for victory was thrilling and full of twists. Gennai, Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki), García, and Julio García (Kove) were all in contention, with Kove even dreaming of a one-two finish. Elia Bartolini (Yamaha Motoxracing) also joined the fight.

On the final lap, it was uncertain who would emerge victorious among the top five riders, with lead changes happening frequently. Ultimately, Gennai proved strongest in the last corners, beating Veneman by 0.214s. García finished third, with Julio García in fourth and Bartolini rounding out the top five. With Bravo’s retirement, Veneman is now the new championship leader.
