Australia was the winner of the 2024 edition of the Motocross of Nations, held this past weekend at Matterley Basin (United Kingdom). The country claimed its first-ever victory, with riders Hunter Lawrence, Jett Lawrence, and Kyle Webster leading the charge.

The first race combined the MXGP and MX1 categories on track, with Tim Gajser (Slovenia/Honda) taking a dominant win, beating Eli Tomac (USA/Yamaha) by a clear margin of 6.810s. Romain Febvre (France/Kawasaki) finished third, 8.978s behind, after passing Jorge Prado (Spain/GasGas) on the fifth lap.

In the second race (MX2 + Open), Jett Lawrence secured a convincing victory. The Australian, riding a Honda, led from early on and beat Rúben Fernández (Spain/Honda) by 7.919s. Simon Längenfelder (Germany/GasGas) finished third, solidifying his position midway through the race after overtaking MX2 world champion Kay de Wolf (Netherlands/Husqvarna).

The final results hinged on the third race, which featured the MXGP and Open categories. Gajser clinched another victory in a thrilling battle with Jett Lawrence, with only 0.459s separating them at the finish line, providing an intense climax. Tomac finished third, while Hunter Lawrence crossed the line in fourth, contributing to Australia’s impressive team performance.

In the end, Australia tallied 26 points to win the 2024 MXGP of Nations. The USA finished second with 29 points, and the Netherlands completed the podium with 36 points. Spain and France rounded out the top five. It’s worth noting that points are calculated based on race positions, so the goal is to accumulate as few points as possible.
