Jorge Prado has returned to winning ways in the MXGP World Championship. On Saturday, the 2023 champion claimed victory in the qualifying race at the MXGP of Switzerland, held in Frauenfeld.
Rúben Fernández (Team HRC), coming back after an injury, took the holeshot and led the initial laps. Jeremy Seewer (Kawasaki) was close behind until he suffered a crash on the third lap.
One lap later, Prado (Red Bull GasGas) made his move to take the lead, while Fernández then lost more positions. The battle for the win then came down to Prado and Tim Gajser (Team HRC).
The Spaniard built a lead of over five seconds at one point. Although the Slovenian closed the gap towards the end, Prado secured the victory with a 1.569s margin.
Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) finished third, followed by Maxime Renaux (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Seewer, who completed the top five. Fernández, unable to maintain his early momentum, finished in eighth place.
