Kay de Wolf has been crowned the new MX2 World Champion! The Dutch rider secured the title yesterday in the final round of the championship in Castilla La Mancha, Spain. Despite a double victory from Lucas Coenen, de Wolf’s consistent performance throughout the season proved enough to clinch the championship.

The battle for the final victory was postponed to the final round of the year in Cózar, with de Wolf and Coenen being the only ones who could triumph. However, the Dutch Nestaan Husqvarna rider knew that he “just needed” to avoid crashes and score a few points to secure the world title in the category.

In race 1, Coenen did his part to keep the dream alive by winning, leaving Andrea Adamo in second and Simon Laengenfelder in third. Thibault Benistant was fourth and Ferruccio Zanchi fifth, with de Wolf finishing seventh.

In the second race, Coenen won again and de Wolf finished second, ahead of Benistant who thus secured the final podium position of the season. Adamo and Mikkel Haarup rounded out the top five.

With 36 points scored, de Wolf secured the MX2 title with a total of 959 points, 20 more than his teammate Coenen. Laengenfelder finished third with 852.

Thus, de Wolf managed to win the world championship and succeeded Adamo.
